Diamond Palace II @ Phnom Penh

Diamond Palace II, Phnom Penh:
Diamond Palace II Hotel is in a great location, just across the National Museum, and 2 blocks away from the famed city boulevard. From the Bus Terminal, tuktuks know the hotel well. The Royal Palace is just around the corner, literally.
This is in the middle of tourist/expat area, so it's pretty safe to walk around, as there are hotels, restaurants, shops of various sorts nearby. Crowds of foreigners flock every nooks and crannies of the road. A lot of nearby retail shops, ATMs, and convenience stores are also a few blocks away.
The very open lobby and breakfast dining hall is not too big, but very clean and defined. Receptionists accept guests swiftly. We were handed our room key immediately, after file checking, processing and paying.
Bar-slash-reception area faces the dining area of the hotel.
Also, mind that the hotel has no elevator, or still under-repair when we were there.
Corridors are well-maintained, with strong orange-y lights.
Superior Twin Room: $25 per night with plated breakfast
This is a good room, minus the 4 flight of stairs up. But even with the kinda awful green walls, the room size and amenities made up for a nice resulting ambiance. WiFi in rooms are a plus.
Flat screen TV with cable, service table with mini ref, coffee-tea making facilities.
Closet cabinet, although even shirts do not exactly fit (vertically), we had to hang them outside. Windows open to random space with no view, but helps in figuring out if it's daytime already.
Bathroom is clean, bright, and designed quite ruggedly. Shower is right in front of the toilet, and bath water is for the whole floor to share.
Kits provided include toothbrushes, paste, soap, comb.
Complimentary Breakfast Menu
Orange Juice
2 Eggs (poached), with toasts, sausage, bacon, ham
Egg Fried Rice and Coffee
Remarks:
  • We had no problem with the hotel whatsoever. Staff understands English well, and tries to accommodate all our queries each time. They even assisted us with confirming our Bus reservation by calling the bus company a few times in our behalf.
  • We kinda hoped the lift was working, but the open corridors with calming views made it bearable.
  • There are tuktuks lined outside the opposite side of the hotel at all times.
  • Concierge is available 24/7.
  • WiFi has good connection, even inside our room.
  • Recommended? Definitely. Although I haven't checked other nearby hotels; when I searched, this is one of the few that stood out in terms of location and price. The overall pleasantness of Diamond Palace II is an added treat.
